Why the motherflock?

When flamingoes become mothers, it is said that they lose their vibrant pink hue due to the energy that it takes to raise their young... it is so all-encompassing that it literally drains the colour from them. The transition to motherhood in humans, isn’t much different. Why are so many new parents struggling? Enter ‘Matrescence’... the rollercoaster ride of physical, hormonal, and emotional developmental transitions that all mothers experience... yet very few discuss. Here, at The MotherFlock, we want to shift that narrative, or at least, help support new moms during this transition... all to help them regain their colour.

What to expect from postpartum

Even with all the planning, reading, and preparedness, it is so hard to know what to expect. Welcome to the rollercoaster ride of a lifetime — where you’re handed a baby (wait, I didn’t have to pass a test or undergo any formal training?), let out into the world, and expected to know what the hell you’re doing. Even if you’ve prepped like crazy, nothing truly prepares you for the sleepless nights, emotional swings, or the sheer chaos of figuring out what that tiny human actually wants. Never mind juggling the identity shifts and coming to terms with what your body has just gone through. What is matrescence? And why does no-one ever talk about how hard this all is? We got you, girl. 💕

Why you should plan for postpartum wellness

Postpartum isn’t just about the baby—you matter too, mama! Planning for your wellness means fewer breakdowns and more breakthroughs. With support, rest, and snacks (always snacks), you’ll actually thrive instead of just survive. Because let’s be real honest… a happy, cared-for you = a rockstar mom. So, make that plan—future you will thank you! ✨

Building your village

Motherhood wasn’t meant to be a solo sport. Part of prioritizing yourself involves asking for help, and making sure you have a village around you. That’s where we can help! Building community and facilitating connection amongst our Vancouver moms is our superpower. We are all just trying to figure out this wild ride called motherhood. But isn’t it better doing it together? We are your new mom friends, here to cheerlead, laugh, cry, and lift you up through these transformative times.

Why it doesn’t all end in the fourth trimester

Bounce back? It’s a myth. We don’t hit the 3 month, or even a year mark (yes, pop that champers in celebration to YOU!) and immediately feel like ourselves. Realistically, it takes years to recover from the sleep deprivation and physical toll of having a baby. You will never quite be the same. BUT, sometimes finding yourself, feels like you’re losing yourself. And you WILL get there. You have a new purpose and joy in your life. And we’re here to help you navigate those shifting identities and make sure you prioritize yourself so you start feeling like YOU again (even if it’s a new, revamped you!).
