Master Your week: The Ultimate Weekly Schedule for Stay-at-Home Superstars

Maternity leave. A delightfully restful year of brunches with friends, baby snuggles, and lounging around watching tv… right? Let’s face it: being a stay-at-home mom isn’t just one job—it’s all the jobs. You’re the chef, chauffeur, counselor, referee, and (hopefully) occasional nap queen. And don’t get us started on the mental load. You’re so busy, with no time to prioritize you, and yet feel like you get nothing done. It sounds ridiculous, but I’m right there with ya, girl! Decision fatigue can make it overwhelming, and without a plan, your week can feel like a nonstop hamster wheel of chaos. But don’t worry—I’ve got your back. This one strategy helped me feel semi-organized, productive, while ensuring I at least got a litttttttttle down time. Create a simple, fun weekly schedule that prioritizes YOU while keeping the tiny humans alive and happy. Everyone wins!

Your weekly framework: a Focus for each Day

“What did you get up to this week?” If it feels like one big foggy haze, it’s time to embrace daily themes that balance mom-life responsibilities with a little you-time. Here’s an example:

  • Monday: Your Get-It-Done Day!
Grocery shopping, meal planning, and errands—this is your productivity day. Load up the kids and channel your inner efficiency queen. You’ll start the week feeling good that you’ve ticked off some things on your to-do list!

  • Tuesday: Move & Treat Day
Ooft, Monday was a DAY! Boost your energy with some movement, whether it’s a neighbourhood walk, yoga class, or at-home workout. And then it’s time to reward yourself… head to your local coffee shop for a flat white (babycino?) & treat. Before long, you’ll know all the best spots and be a coffee connoisseur!

  • Wednesday: Community, Connect, & Learn
Playdate? Baby class? Meeting up with a friend? This day is all about making and maintaining connections. Choose a non-fiction audiobook, or podcast on a topic you’re interested in, to listen to as you go about your day… a nice way to check if the ol’ brain cells are still firing. Oh you had to rewind 57 times? Me too.

  • Thursday: Organize & Pamper
Use the morning for some light organizing or to check off something on your list. Then block off the afternoon for YOU. Do something that makes your body or mind feel good and rejuvenated… shower with a eucalyptus shower steamer, blow dry your hair, stretch your body, paint your nails, journal…

  • Friday: Fun & Adventure
Add some adventure to kick the weekend off right. Maybe you explore a new neighbourhood in town, try a tourist activity, hit up a local trail, or even head for a weekly snowshoe. Something new that helps you step out your comfort zone a little.

Mom First, Always

This schedule works because it prioritizes YOU. Yes, you love your kids, but mama, you deserve more than leftover chicken nuggets and to drown in laundry. You are the most important person in your family. And you can’t pour from an empty cup. Schedule your workouts, hobbies, or coffee dates first—everything else can work around them. Prioritizing you, allows you to be the best version of yourself for your children. And if you’re in the early days, set aside at least one nap time a day, or when your partner gets back from work, to do one thing that brings you joy.

Hot tip: Keep chores for when Baby’s awake

Nap time is prime me-time real estate. Don’t waste those precious quiet minutes folding socks or scrubbing counters! Save the chores—like laundry, tidying up, unloading the dishwasher, or even cooking—for when your little one is awake and ready to be your mini "helper". Babies can be strapped in the carrier, and toddlers can play nearby or practice their budding housekeeping skills while you tackle the to-dos. Meanwhile, nap time is strictly reserved for you—whether that’s a hot coffee, some pampering, or finally starting that book you’ve been eyeing. Repeat after me: I deserve rest. You’ve earned it!

Keep It Flexible (and Fun)

Life happens. The baby has a blow-out again, your toddler suddenly hates their favorite food, and someone always has a meltdown at the worst time. As Mel Robbins says, “Let them”. Roll with it. This schedule isn’t about perfection; it’s about slowing down and making space for the stuff that matters—like your sanity. And if the day’s a bust… tomorrow is a new day!

So go ahead, take charge of your week. You’re not just surviving—you’re thriving, one themed day at a time. You’ve got this, mama!
